How close to an obstacle should I place the boundarywire for my Automower?

Husqvarna Automower has a setting called "Drive past wire". With this setting, you can adjust the measurement of how far past the boundary wire Automower drives before it turns and drives in a different direction. This means that this measurement must be taken into account when placing the boundary wire during installation.

This example uses a Husqvarna Automower 430X from the year 2021, with a standard setting to drive 31 cm past the cable.
Because you usually want the robotic lawnmower to mow as close to an obstacle, wall or other object as possible, without actually bumping into the obstacle, you need to place the boundary wire as close to the object as possible.

In this example the Automower 430X is driving 31 cm past the wire. You should use the measuring stick that comes with your Automower and lay the boundary cable 32–33 cm from the object. This means that the robotic lawnmower mows as close to the object as possible without bumping into the object, thereby preventing scratches or impact damage that could otherwise occur if Automower continuously bumped into the object.

In other situations where, for example, you have slabs at the same height as the lawn, you should lay the boundary wires closer to the slabs. Then the Automower will mow as close to the slabs as possible. We recommend you lay the boundary wire 10 cm from the slabs.
The same principle applies to hedges with sparse growth at the bottom so the Automower can get under it without getting stuck. You should lay the boundary wires 10 cm from the edge of the soil. Then the Automower will edge cut the grass under the hedge.
