How to create an island for the Husqvarna Automower®
By creating an island, you create an area where the Automower® will not drive. You may need to create an island for a tree, a playhouse or another obstacle in the middle of the lawn. You can also physically block the Automower from driving into an obstacle with, for example, fencing arches, but this is usually only used temporarily. An island will become permanent and invisible.

You can easily create multiple islands in your installation, but there are certain rules that need to be followed in order for it to work as intended.

How to proceed

Creating an island is usually done as part of the installation process. It is important to have a clear plan of what the installation will look like and what possible obstacles will be demarcated before you start laying the boundary wire. This will help establish how the islands will be created and how to proceed.

The actual process of creating an island is simple and goes like this:
1. Starting from the edge of your lawn, lay the boundary wire in a straight line towards the obstacle.
2. Surround the obstacle with the boundary wire clockwise and keep at least 30 cm distance from the edge of the obstacle.
3. Lay the returning boundary wire in the same groove as the outgoing boundary wire back at the edge of the lawn.

The Automower® will ignore the incoming and outgoing boundary wire, but will only take into account the island that has been circled.
It should look like this:

Can I have multiple islands on the same installation?
Yes, you can have multiple islands on the same installation. Always make sure to lay the boundary wire around the island in a clockwise direction and never cross the boundary wire.

Can I continue from one island to another?
Yes, you can continue to run the boundary wire from one island to another without any problem.
For example, if you have two trees with a 2m gap between them, you can first lay the boundary wire and create an island around the nearest tree, and then using the same principle, pull the boundary wire around the other tree and create an island there as well.
